It’s fall, y’all! Can you believe it? I guess to be perfectly realistic, we may not quite be done with summer, but there’s a light at the end of this hot weather tunnel, and it’s probably not a train. (Just wait, though. I for one hate cold weather, and will be whining like you won’t believe when the highs are only in the 50’s for a week.)
In the meantime I would very much love to hear your food hopes and dreams for fall. Here’s what’s on my mind:
Football Food! We made boiled peanuts last week, what else are you craving? I have a great recipe for party toast that’s been a big hit, I’ll share that in a week or two. And I have a request for Hot Mess. If you haven’t had Hot Mess, you’re in for a treat. Yes, you heard right: HOT MESS.
Soups and stews. I am a soup and stew junkie. Does anyone have a good recipe for a savory sweet potato soup or stew of some sort? I’m flirting with the idea of a southern minestrone sort of thing with roasted sweet potatoes.
GUMBO! Can you believe we are not even two weeks away from the Eastern Shore Kiwanis Club’s Best of the Bay Gumbo Cookoff? October 15, Halstead Amphitheater, tickets $10 in advance here, $15 at the gate. Be there, or be square. Little Coastal Kitchen won the People’s Choice award last year, and, boy howdy!, I want to earn it again. Stop by our tent and see what you think. Your vote is very much appreciated!
Cooking classes. I’m looking at the big calendar and making plans. Sometime in late October or early November I want to do Holiday Food Gifts (Slacker Edition), which has been super popular and fun before. I’m considering a Gumbo workshop this fall–is anyone interested in that?. And I’m looking for your feedback on holiday feast classes: Do y’all want a Thanksgiving turkey and/or sides class? A Christmas one? How to Manage Family and Leftovers without Going to Jail? With any of these, be prepared for restaurant-quality food and sore ribs from laughing.
Interactive dinner parties are available most anytime I can fit them in. How does that work? Gather a few friends, we’ll cook and eat beautiful food together. You and your people can help as much or as little as you want. Emphasis is on quality ingredients–local where practical–but always fresh, healthy, delicious food! Learn a new technique, or just enjoy the experience. Makes a great gift. Call me for availability. 251-455-0861.
I’m glad you’re my tribe!
OXOXOX,
Malia
