Welcome to Little Coastal Kitchen!
The coast we’re talking about is the Gulf Coast of the USA–and particularly the north central part of that, from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle, and up to an hour or two inland, more or less. This ribbon of the Deep South enjoys a unique culinary heritage, and a culture and personality all its own. Sandwiched between the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and rich agricultural lands with a long growing season, we are lucky cooks and eaters here and we have been for a long time. Throw in all the French, Spanish, West Indies, British, African, Greek and Italian influences, and the food here is Southern and then some!
My name is Malia and I’m the ringleader here at the LCK. I am from the Gulf Coast, I live on the coast, I cook, and I do other food-related things. I used to be a food service professional. I have been a waitress, a cocktail waitress, a bartender, a bar manager, a restaurant manager, a restaurant manager who washes dishes because the dishwasher didn’t show up again, a restaurant manager who drives a VW Jetta around town before dinner service picking up dishwashers without rides, a caterer, a personal chef, a food writer, a recipe developer, a teacher of cooking classes, and now this.
So whether you’re a native, an import, an expatriate, or just a food enthusiast–veteran or novice–pull up a stool, preheat the oven, melt a stick of butter, grab a beverage, and let’s have fun! We’re glad you’re here!
